QA: Souq Waqif (again) and Football

Jumaat petang, aku ke Souq Waqif sekali lagi. Kali ni, aku ‘pinjam’ wife kawan aku, BI sebab aku tak berapa fasih berbahasa Arab nak bargain. Wife BI ni, an Egyptian, is very good at bargaining. Joining us are JS and his Turkish wife.

Mrs. JS mula-mula sampai dah berborong. First thing dia beli carpet yang gambar kuda. She loves horses so much. Harga letak QR40 dapat tawar ke QR25. Okay le tu…

Pah tu we singgah kat kedai yang jual amber. Mati-mati aku ingat amber ni a real stone. Rupa-rupanya it is product from a tree. It is like a glue. Yellowish in color. Mrs. JS bought bracelet and pendant for QR350 - if I am not mistaken. Not bad considering the size of the bracelet. Aku pulak beli necklace. Tapi bukan amber le. I was told ni bones from Africa. Whatever lah, janji bukan tulang babi.

Ni gambar dia. Harga nya QR40.. again the power of bargain from Mrs. BI dapat QR25.

Lama jugak kat kedai ni.

Lepas shopping kat kedai ni, kita orang ke kedai yang jual handicraft. Aku beli kusyen – four of them are Syrian made and another is local Qatari hand-made. Altogether QAR155. Here are the photos. Merah dan cream tu from Syrian and yang burgundy/maroon tu Qatari made. Saje aku beli yang colour nak sama ngan Qatar flag sebab nak ada jugak kenangan from Qatar. Sekali pandang, macam Mexican/South American lak.

On the way back, singgah kat Al-Omraa Sweets beli shawarma. According to Mrs. JS, who is Turkish, her friends recommend this place. Dia cakap, this is (probably) the best shawarma in Doha. Tak tahu lak aku. Bila aku makan tu, biasa je. Take away. Kedai jual shawarma ni dekat je ngan kedai yang jual falafel. This falafel also is the best in Doha, I was told. Nama kedai dai Palestinian Cafeteria. Ramai gak expatriates yang beli kat sini. Mostly take away je sebab kedai makan punya condition tak up to standard…hmm.. maybe this is the reason why the falafel is sooo good!

Sorry tak de gambar shawarma & falafel tu..

Balik umah, letak barang-barang kat my apartment and terus ke apartment BI. Mrs. BI bawa shawarma terus ke apartment dia. Kononnya nak makan sambil watch opening game World Cup between Germany and Costa Rica. Alih-alih, cable channels yang we subscribe tak de showing the game. Sedih je peminat-peminat bola kat bangunan ni. Teruk betul satellite TV provider kat Qatar ni. Siap kena beli package lain nak tengok World Cup. Kalau kat Malaysia, memang dah masuk paper. Kat sini, tak penting sangat – sebab dia orang ada duit. Kalau kena bayar, bayar je lah. Tak de lak nak complaint lebih-lebih sampai masuk paper. Apa-apa hal pun, aku bukannya minat World Cup ni.. so, nothing concern me. Lagi pun, minggu depan nak balik Malaysia!!!!

QA: Iranian President Letter....

Mr. George Bush,
President of the United States of America

For sometime now I have been thinking, how one can justify the undeniable contradictions that exist in the international arena -- which are being constantly debated, especially in political forums and amongst university students. Many questions remain unanswered. These have prompted me to discuss some of the contradictions and questions, in the hopes that it might bring about an opportunity to redress them. Can one be a follower of Jesus Christ (PBUH), the great Messenger of God,Feel obliged to respect human rights,Present liberalism as a civilization model,Announce one’s opposition to the proliferation of nuclear weapons and WMDs,Make “War on Terror” his slogan,And finally, Work towards the establishment of a unified international community – a community which Christ and the virtuous of the Earth will one day govern,But at the same time,Have countries attacked.

Nota: We know that Mr Bush probably did not read the letter, but other people in the world read it....

QA: Potong ke??

Pagi semalam on the way to the client, masa berenti kat trafic light tu, ada black VW Toureg selambakodok je mencelah. Lane tu tiga je, tapi si local Qatari yang driving VW ni tambah satu lagi lane. Jadi empat. Sipi-sipi je nak kena kereta lain. Tarak otak ke....
