Tonight, I will be leaving for Q4t4r again.. actually the flight is in early morning Wednesday (0310hrs). Expected to touch down at DOH at 0600hrs local time.

Last thing to do is to change money. I found a good money changer that change QR at a favourable rate - at Sg Wang Plaza..

Hmm.. I always feel nervous everytime I am leaving my home in KL... Don't know why...

So, this is my last post from Malysia...

MY: Second Day...

Second day of Syawal. Woke up late. Just resting for the whole day at home. No visits outside. Hmm.. this has been my routine for raya since few years back. Tomorrow's plan -> to visit a friend who is back home for raya from Doha. His family house is only few kilometres from my house.

Am bored... Tonight, my cousin invites me for a BBQ at her new house. Maybe I drop by after Maghrib.

I share with you one of my hobbies -> collecting aircraft miniature... here are what I have so far.

MY: Selamat Hari Raya

Today is the 1st Syawal in Malaysia. And the second of Eid day in Qatar. When will the Muslims unite if they cannot even uniformize the celebration of Eid... And because of this as well, my Ramadan for this year is 31 days...

The truth about Eid Fitr celebration for me is -> I don't like it. Deep inside me, I always feel nervous during Eid day. It always the same for many years... and I hate it. Morning, after prayer, I will be at home, waiting for my cousins to visit me as they always do. Then, I will go to their houses to meet their parents (my aunties). Then to my late maternal grandparents' graves, my uncle's grave and my younger brother's grave. On the way back, I will stop by my relative place next to cemetary. Back home, have a shower and drove with my family to my paternal grandmother's house 40km to the south. Had dinner there and drove back home and went to bed!

It has been a routine for me during Eid Fitr for the last few years and I hate it! Not that I hate meeting them but the routine... it is boring! I wish I could change... I wish...

MY: Last Sahoor for this Ramadan

Just completed my last sahoor for this Ramadhan. InsyaAllah, dipanjangkan umur and I will have another Ramadhan to experience.

As I am writing this, it is 7 minutes countdown to Fajr prayer. Plans for today, pay my zakat fitrah and strolling around my hometown.

Looking back at this year Ramadhan, I wish I had done lots of good deeds i.e., sadaqah - but I cannot turn back time. Hope Allah accepts all good deeds I have done so far and forgives all the sins I have committed... Ameen...

And I am also dissapointed for not being able to complete reciting the whole Qura'an during this year's Ramadhan as I did previously... Am I too busy with my life in the world and forget the life after? May Allah forgives me...

MY: Traffic..Iftar... Rain...

I had my iftar at JW Marri0tt Kuala Lumpur with BH and my two brothers. This is the cheapest buffet I ever encountered in Kuala Lumpur - only RM48++ per person. Good and variaties of food.. from appetizers to dessert. Most importantly, I have been craving for kampung style cooking since the beginning of Ramadan. Although I didn't manage to sample them all, I did have a taste of Nasi Ayam, Sup Ekor, Rojak Buah, sambal belacan, cencalok, budu :-) to name a few. Too much of food.... I have to take care of my diet :-)

It took me more than one hour from Ampang to Bkt Bintang. Crazy huh? Traffic was really bad.. I guessed it will take longer time had I not used the elevated highway. Why did all people have to leave office/home at the same time, especially those that were not fasting??!

30 minutes into the dusk, downpour greeted us. We were unfortunate since our table exactly next to the pool in an open space! Those waiters must be the "bidan terjun" waiters - they not even know what to do. Yeah.. dumb waiter! Don't think they are Malaysians. They kept saying there were no empty spaces and offered us to transfer to Level 4, Starhill Conference Hall - another area for iftar at Marri0tt. At first, we refused - who wants to move two level down in the middle of dinner.. nanti kahwin terlebih kan :-)) and hold and behold, we DID find an empty table fit for four! And it exactly in front of those waiters' station!

The cabin crew, led by CSD Eliza and assisted by CA Dan and CA Sameer made my journey memorable - although am not satisfied with the cabin seats....

QA: Asian Games blues...

First day back at the client after three weeks of so called "relaxation" at RP. In fact, back at the client is also a "relaxation" for me - just different place! Was reading the news paper this morning - and I want to share this news.. the Asian Games blues....

Accommodation glitch hits Asian Games Athletes Village

Several countries have been forced to cut down on their Asian Games contigents or find alternative accommodation for some of their representatives because of a space crunch at the Athletes Village
MT: Thot that preliminary list of contigents were sent earlier, why now have to cut down? Planning..planning...[What??? Are you expecting Q4t4r to do proper planning? macam tunggu kucing bertanduk le.. mat salleh ni nak duit je]

Chris Ch4n, Singap0re National Olympic Secretary General - It's ridiculous. Preliminary list sent earlier this year and only bring it up now, last minute? Only 173 out of 204 athletes will be accommodated at the Village.

Sieh K0k Chi, Olympic C0uncil of Mal4ysia Secretary General blamed the over-ambitious D4GOC (Doh4 Asi4n Games Organizing Committee) - They probably bit off more than they could chew, but only realising it a bit now. 19 members of Malaysian team may have to stay elsewhere despite the country having the contingent reduced from 359 to 335.

The Philipp!nes had announced a contingent of 400 composed of 267 athletes and 133 officials, but they were alloted only 316 beds.
MT: Why just these three S.E.A countries are quoted? Other Asians countries are not affected? Something fishy here....

Well, what can I say.. Most of the D4GOC officials are non-Qat4ris. Tonnes of westerners are in town working in so-called "preparing for the best Asian games ever held" - but being here for the last two years, I didn't see any outstanding improvement delivered by these westerners. And all the Qat4ris involved in top level are from the prominent Qat4ri families.

Still remember few weeks back - headline in all local newspapers "We are ready for Olympic".....

QA: Fawaneez Ramadhan Tent

Last night, I went to the Ramadhan Tent at the Intercontinental Doha with MM and Zals. I booked the table for later into the night to give us sufficient time to digest the food for sahoor. To my surprise, the tent was not crowded- which was quite abnormal. Having attended the same Ramadan Tent concept last year at the Ritz Carlton, this year's at Intercontinental was below par. The buffet spread was, to my taste, low quality and badly presented.

Worse, the tent was not properly ventilated, shrouded with shisha and cigarettes smoke - just like the haze situation back in Malaysia (I was told)!

I would rate 4 out of 10 points for the environment, set up and food - the only things that made my day were the dancers (I can't remember what the dance is called although I read about it somewhere before) and companionship by two friends in Doha, MM and Zals.

Thank you guys...

QA: Back to the Courts

Today is my last day in my office at RP. Will relocate to the client site again next Sunday. Oh well.. only for four days since I will be fying off on Wednesday nite. Nothing much to be done at the client site anyway. But since they have agreed to the addendum of the contract as well as agreed to pay the invoices, we sort of have to "show face" at their building.

Next week, there will be only six of us and all top management are away on holidays.. (Muslim sibuk raya, dia orang pun nak bercuti lebih-lebih lak...). So, definitely it is going to be a quiet time there.
Hmmm... now I have to pack up my stuff here and transfer them to my desk over 'there'. I hate moving!

Tonight, am having an iftar (dinner) with my office mate - a farewell dinner for the PMO Lead who is going back to the US and later in the night, I will be joining my other friends for a Ramadan Tent (early sahoor) at the Intercontinental Doha.

AE: Abu Dhabi...

I spent two days in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. If I am not mistaken, Abu Dhabi is the biggest emirates among all the seven emirates within the UAE. Unfortunately, the airport is not as great as Dubai's airport.

Stayed at Le Meridien, room 451. A very old building. I was told the building was built around 25 years ago. The lobby has that Arabic/Middle Eastern touch and in a total contrast with the room - newly refurbished "zen" concept room! One great thing about this hotel is the Meridien Village. A very nice garden with big koi pond and fifteen restaurants (yes... fifteen restaurants!! mana ada hotel kat Malaysia with fifteen restaurants!). Ironically, I didn't try any of it - I actually ended eating Burger King and my all time favourite, KFC.. :-)

Since it was Ramadan, the shops were not opened until after iftar on Friday (Yup.. I was there on Friday and Saturday). So, Friday morning, I stayed in the hotel and in the afternoon, I took a stroll along Sheikh Hamdan street (one of the two busiest streets in the city - another one being Sheikh Zayed The Second street or Electra street).

Abu Dhabi is more structured compare to Doha. It seems that the city has been developed to follow the [shall I say] New York style - grid development. It is not as hectic as Dubai, but more chaos compare to Doha. Taxi is easy to get, unlike Doha where no guarantee for a taxi even if you have booked for one two hours earlier!

Friday, I took a taxi to Marina Mall, a huge mall at the opposite end of where I stayed. The mall is in the Breakwater area, same area where the world renowned hotel, Emirates Palace is. I went both to Marina Mall and Abu Dhabi Mall - conclusion: Dubai is better with more up to scale malls i.e., Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall and Burjuman Center.

Overall, the trip was just so-so. At least I got a stamp "Abu Dhabi Airport" in my passport - a proof that I have been there! I would not go there for vacation - try Dubai.

There are few photos updated in my fotopages. Take a look and please, do leave a comment. :-))

AE: Etihad Airways.. DOH.. AUH..

Last weekend I went to Abu Dhabi (AUH) - renewing my visa. Every three months, I have to fly out of Qatar to get my business visa renewed. And I just love doing it. First, I cna collect miles and second, I can travel... Normally, I just go to Bahrain for a day. This is the cheapest fare around QAR670 on weekend (on week days, it can reach up to QAR1000 return fare - mostly cater for business travellers).

Searching the internet, I found Etihad Airways offering fare of QAR710 to AUH. Wow.. that was cool. QR is charging QAR790 for the same sector. Since I never try EY product, I grabbed the chance to fly with EY's only B767-300ER.

Sector time from DOH to AUH is only 40 minutes. Snacks were served - dates, chicken pie, coleslaw, cheesecake and orange juice. For both DOH-AUH and AUH-DOH, the same captain pilot the aircraft and both sectors also were serviced by all famale cabin crews.
A short hop so nothing much to write about. Inbound into AUH, the flight was around 40% full with majority of guests (yup.. EY defines the passengers as Guests) were transit guests to Manila. Outbound from AUH, most guests were South Asians going to Qatar for work.

Check in at DOH was abreeze. Only two check in counters for EY and only 3 guests were checking in when I reached there. It took me around three minuets to complete the check in procedures.

Queuing for immigration and security were a bit unpleasant. While I was in the queue, suddenly the Immigration Office decided to close the lane. Apparently, at that time, it was a change of shift. Hmmm..

I handed over my passport and Exit Permit to a female Immigration Office - no kidding this officer has a very thick make up on her face!. She muttered that there was something wrong with the system and ignored my Exit Permit. Ok.. no issue to me as long as I can go out and come back without any hassle!

Security is another issue. Frankly, I do not know what's wrong with my belt. It always "beep" whenever I go through the metal detector at DOH departure hall. And it only happens in DOHA Airport! Kidding you not! Since I am flying Economy class, I have to take out my belt and went through the detector again. [If you are flying Business class, just ensure your boarding pass is visible to the officer - u might get away easily - I have done it!]

It was a surprise to see the improvement that has been made to the airport. A huge passenger area is now available on the upper level. A generous space of Prayer Room is also available. Another food court is now open, thus pulling some passengers from the existing congested food court. A Flight Information Display (FID) is now installed and the departure gates have been refurbished!

A step towards getting accreditation by the US FAA I guess - I read somewhere that FAA does not "recognize"/"approve" Doha Airport - thus preventing QR to fly to US destination. Surprise isn't it?

Coming back from AUH, I checked myself in at the AUH City Terminal. A deserted building - am the only passenger! As I was flying Economy, I have to pay Dhs70 for the service - an exclusive Etihad Guest coach to the airport. My advice, it is not worth it!

The landside of the AUH is cleaner albeit small. A dedicated area for premium passengers to check in is under construction. As per most airports in the Middle East that I have been (DOH, DXB, JED), the check in area is exclusively for passengers only. You need to scan your luggage before entering the check in area. The airside is a different story - with a with a weird low curve design made me claustrophobic! To make the thing worse, the whole terminal turned out to be smoking area where people lit their cigarettes whenever they want, wherever they want! Hmm.. so much about civilized Westerners!
Anyway, I have updated some photos in my fotopages... check it out and please, do leave a comment.. :-) [if you don't mind]

QA: Weekend Retreat

This weekend, I plan to be in Abu Dhabi. Flying the national airline of UAE, Etihad Airways.. Hope to see couple of friends over there. Ticket dah confirm but the hotel is yet to be booked. Maybe staying at Le Meridien..

=== Update ===

Now, I have received my ticket, my Exit Permit and confirmed my hotel reservation at Le Meridien Abu Dhabi. Few interesting points for me on this trip:

1) First time flying Etihad Airways. Now, altogether, I have flown 15 airlines in the world -> MH, SQ, AK, QR, SV, CX, BD, LH, FR, AA, NW, AI, JL, UA and now EY!

2) First time in Abu Dhabi. Have not been to the city before. Decided to cancel Dubai this time since I want to go to places where I have not been before. Will still include Dubai in the future list since I have not got enough of the city.

3) First time staying at Le Meridien. Previously, I stayed mostly at Marriotts & affiliates, Sofitel, InterContinental and Hilton (and of course few other local chain hotels..). I enrolled in the Sheraton/Le Meridien & affiliates SPG programme - so as to redeem more points for my future travel (insyaAllah)..

4) First time travel in the Middle East area during Ramadhan for leisure (knowing that it will be hot, less activities and shops/malls will not open until late evening) -> the latter being the most important point :-)
