MY: DOH - KUL...

Sept 30, QR624... A7-ACI (in Asian Games 2006 blue colour) flew me home from Doha.

I checked in around 9pm and returned to the airport an hour before departure. The lounge was full and the flight has already started boarding. Nothing interesting to buy at the duty free, so I proceeded to board the aircraft.

Met Mel, an old friend on board the aircraft. She is a CS in charge of the Economy Class. My previous flight from KUL to DOH last July was also served by Mel.

The turbulence en route to KUL was quite bad. If I am not mistaken, we were hit by turbulence occassionally starting from the Oman air space and it lasted until we flew over Andaman Sea.

I had a chicken rendang for my late supper, which was served an hour after take-off. Two hours after my supper, CSD Alain came and told me the imsak will be slightly after 3 am (Doha time). At that time we were flying over Indian airspace. I agreed to have an early breakfast and chose continental breakfast for my sahoor. At this time, Mel came over and we chat for about 15 minutes. Poor her.. she was not allowed to sit on the empty seat next to me (seat 1F), so, she sort of has to squat on the floor... :-(

Half an hour before 3 am, I had an early breakfast. A full set of continental breakfast. Then, I had a good 3 hours sleep until 30mins before landing at KUL. Landed on time at KUL and by 1pm, I was on ERL to XKL.

Well, this probably the last flight for me with Qatar Airways... Although they claimed they are the 5 Star airlines awarded by Skytrax, I think I pass... (no hard feelings to my QR crew friends ok..:-))

QA: Back to the dust

I reached the airport around 12.30am for my flight STD 0420. Took the last train from XKL at midnight.

At the airport, QR check in counters are at check in island J. MH ground staff man the counters since this is a code share flight with MH. When I checked in, there was not even one QR ground staff available. Although before this, while waiting the counter to open, I saw one QR ground staff over at KU counters. I overheard he said the flight was delay. When I asked the check in lady, she told me it will be on time, as per previous day.

I only have one luggage to check in and I got my requested seat. Went straight to the lounge for a quick/short nap. I was very tired adn the next morning, I have to work.

Time passes and it si nearly 4am. No announcement on boarding. Went to the lounge reception and was told that the flight was delayed for 20 minutes. Ah.. well... walk to the buffet area and they just started serving breakfast..Yum..yum.. Nasi Lemak Sambal Sotong.. unfortunately I didn't have appetite to eat.

By 4:20am, I walked to the gate. Surprisingly, no one boarded the aircraft yet. Then an announcement was made that the departure will be delayed for another 20 minutes. Now, it will be at 5am.

I was among the last to board and was greeted by CSD Shelyn and CCS Melissa. Hmm... Melissa looks familiar. She directed me tio my seat and yes.. I know Melissa. We had dinner together on her birthday at Marri0t D0ha two years back. She told me that I look familiar.. but she cannot remember me. An old friend... nice meeting you again...

Off the ground and the moment the seat belt sign was off, I reclined my seat only to wake up for breakfast. A good but not really comfortable sleep. One and a half hour before landing into Doha, I had mee goreng for breakfast.

Overall, the service was just so-so. The food quality yet to improved. Seat, argrhh... the oldest business class seat in the entire QR fleet I guess... wonder when they are going to phase out all these oldies... A300-600.

Arrived in Doha at 07:13am local time. Amazing.. the arrival terminal was empty. For the first time I experience this. Since my business visa expired, I entered the country with tourist visa for QAR100 and valid for a month.

Welcome back.... sore throat & flu... dizzy..dizzy..dizzy.. went straight home from the airport.. within one hour from the landing, i am actually at my apartment. Huh.. how efficient is that :-)) unpacked my stuff and by 9am, I was already in the office.... :-))

MY: A Trip Home...

Left apartment for the airport around 6:15pm.Originally, plan to leave around 6pm, however, have to wait for AI/MR to send some stuff for their parents and Zal went to pick AZ from his apartment. AZ is going back for good after a year in DOH. I promised him that I will check in arnd 20kg of his luggage.

Checked in was abreeze. A definite positive point when you are traveling with Premium Class on Qatar Airways. A special terminal for you to check in where you will be treated like a real person and wonderful QR ground staff. I wonder why QR can’t station the same trained people at the main terminal.

I was assigned to seat 1E, a typical seat if I travel with QR. I prefer not to take window seat or aisle next to window to avoid disturbance to the next person. No one queuing at the immigration and there were two immigration officers. One was busy playing with her phone and another served me. Asked about my visa expiration date and was told it will expire on the July 8th., the same day I am due to fly into Qatar. The officer advised me to apply for a new one to avoid complication. Oh well.. let see whether it can be done on time!

Make a short round at the duty free – couple of things attract me, but I avoid buying them… BOSE noise canceling headphone, dress watch.. and few Arabic CDs… I will have one more trip via this Premium Terminal, I told myself that I will buy it next time.. :-)

Went straight to the lounge for Maghreb prayer and some dinner. The lounge was deserted. Less than 20 pax over there. After prayer, I looked for a remote table with a plug for my laptop. Since there were a few passengers, I guess I will connect to internet at the dining area. Chat with Zal and read few blogs.

The flight was a bit delayed, from 2030 to 2055. So, more time for me to surf the net.

Overall, the food was terrible. No taste at all. They served steam rice, grilled veggie, dry pasta and baked fish. Very plain taste.. in fact when I asked for chili sauce, they don’t have it.. tu nasib baik tak mintak kicap… definitely I will complaint.

Boarding started at 8:30pm and it was a full house for Business Class. One thing I can never understand QR is how they always successfully split family members traveling together. The same case I experienced during the flight. I was caught in the middle of family of five (parents and three small kids). I have no choice so I volunteer to take the window seat. Arrghh.. how I hate window seat when there’s somebody sitting next to me!

QR didn’t impress me at all this time. In fact, I sensed the service level has gone down.. This aircraft, A7-AFC still have old seat.. smaller than old seat that MH has in their Airbus fleet. Small and limited reclining. Food, don’t mention about it. No improvement.. still same menu and the omelet for breakfast was awful.

Landed in KUL 15 minutes late. No other international arrival at that time, so the terminal and immigration were not crowded. My luggage came in quite fast and be a responsible traveling partner, I waited for AZ to join me at the luggage carousel and waited for him while he went shopping for chocolates :-)

Took ERL to KL Sentral and my brother came to pick me up from there. Reached home around half past noon, just nice to unpack before Friday prayer…

Home Sweet Home… at last… is it really sweet? Errrrr……

QA: Journey Back...MCT-DOH

Although our flight back to DOH is scheduled at 1855hrs, we decided to check in early. Just to wander around the airport and snap some photos. I drove to the airport from the City Center Mall which is located 10 mins away. Bid goodbye to Ard and SA, we went straight to the check in counter. As per other airport in the Middle East, the check in area is reserved for travelling passengers only and cordon off from the outside.

When we entered the check in area, only Qatar Airways counters were operational. There were three counters for the Economy class and the queue for each counter has at least 5 passengers. Looks like another full flight with transit passengers.

The queue we were on was a bit slow. Apparently a couple of family in front of us have lots of luggage to check in and to make the matter worse, the whole family gather in front of the check in desk. Why can't only two or three of them check in while others can wait a bit further!

Since we have only two small luggage to check in, the process went trough in no time. I was assigned with seat 27B, which is a middle seat and Zal was at seat 27A. Since there was nothing interesting around the check in area, we decided to proceed to the airside. Heard that MCT only have three or four shops in the duty free area, so I just need to see how small the duty free area is :-)

Immigration went smoothly, and same for the security. As experienced during our two-day stay, we were amazed by the tolerance and hospitality shown by the Omanis. At the immigration counter, I was greeted with a smile and the officer tried to have a conversation with me in Arabic. Something that you will never experience in D0ha, and probably not even in Malaysia(?). The officer at the x-ray security was very polite. When I reached there, he politely asked me to empty my pockets and told me what to do in a soft voice. I really feel I am
"somebody" there :-))

Took the escalator to the departure lounge and duty free area. Well, it is not that bad.... only I could not find the things I want... aircraft model (well, same in D0ha... no aircraft model on sale at the duty free). Took few photos of the area and the tarmac activities. Unfortunately, nothing much happening. Only one Air India Express bound for, where else, India of course. Can't remember the destination though.

Boarding started 45 minutes before the scheduled take off. We were bussed to the QR metal on the other end of the terminal building. It was A321, a typical for regional destinations. We used the aft door to embark and was greeted by a Japanese crew. Further inside, three more crew waiting to assist passangers. There were another two crew at the business class section of the aircraft.

While waiting for another group of passengers to embark, I took a chance to snap some photos inside the cabin. The flight was pretty full and we took off on time.

Unlike Oman Air, Qatar Airways only serves snack for this 1hr 5mins flight. The flight itself was uneventful but the actiities inside the cabin that irritated me the most. People using the handphone and another group of Ar4b ladies having sort of argument. Just like a vegetable market in D0ha. And worse, no initiative by the crew to mend the situation. Couple of passengers using the hand phone right in front of the crew! Really pissed me off.

On ground, I immendiately logged in the complaint about the uncomfortable flight.

We landed on time and were bussed to the arrival terminal. No issue with immigration and the lugagge also came out at the same time we finished immigration. Kind of efficient I would say :-)

Called our friend, KM to pick us up and we went for dinner at Central Indones1an restaurant.

Overall, it was a good trip and I love every single second of it.

Millions of thanks to my MiME bloggers, Zal, Ard and SA for the weekend. Thank you for willing to spend the weekend together. May be we can meet again - in another country :-))

Monday

QA: Back Again... [sigh]

Landed in D0ha after 7hrs 50 mins flight from K U L - minus one of my luggage. Yup..one of my bags did not manage to get into the same flight with me - lupa nak dapatkan boarding pass kot.. hehehe. Apparently, it prefer to go to Bangk0k first and later to D0ha. So, let see whether it decides to come back to me or stay in Bangk0k... :-p It suppose to catch a Q R flight from B K K tonight.

The flight was over-booked and again, I got the (old) first class seat. It is a flat bed and managed to catch a good sleep that I have been missing previous night. The whole flight was uneventful.

I decided not to go to work today. First reason, no car available (read: lazy). Second reason, it was already late after I unpacked my stuff (read: lazy). Third reason... I think you already know.... :-P

Let see what in store for me this time around. Will go back again in March/April..... counting days :-))
btw, somebody gave me this when I reached my apartment.. thanks :-)

Wednesday

QA: Premium Terminal

Am at the world's only airport Premium Terminal dedicated for Q R First and Business class passengers. From my observation, M H Golden Lounge at K L I A is bigger and have more varieties of food. Service wise, Q R is more professional compare to those Residence Hotel staff that manage the lounge. I have heard that Wings at H K I A is the world best lounge, but since I am yet to experience the lounge, I was not able to comment about it.

This premium terminal is specifically for Q R passengers departing and transiting in DOH. For other carriers, they still have to use the sardine-packed existing terminal. Looking at tonight's crowd, I think Q R underestimate the utilization. Even now, at midnight, peak time for Q R heavies, the seats are insufficient. Luckily I have checked in earlier and booked the best seat at the lounge. :-) okay..okay.. not the best seat, but good one :-p

At midnight, the lights are deemed.... nak suruh tido ka? nanti terlepas flight baru tahu.. :-p

Facilities are great. They have Cloak Room, Games Room, Nursery, Clinic, Business Center, Duty Free area and separate First & Business Class lounges. Unlike M H Golden Lounge, there is no way for passengers from one lounge to sneak to another lounge. In the Golden Lounge, you can sneak via the Business Center and a link door at the end of the lounge.

Enjoy some photos..

MY: Another Last... (?)

Ok.. I lied. My previous post was not the last post. Here is the last post from Malaysia. :-) I am at Golden Lounge, KLIA. One hour to go before boarding. Hmm.. Check in was a breeze albeit it opened 10 minutes late from schedule. I got my preferred seat, seat 1A. If you are flying QR to/from KUL in Biz, try not to accept last row (row 4). If the aircraft is not retrofitted with shell-seat, you will never comfortable.

Tonight supper at the Lounge - kepak ayam madu and otak-otak.

MY: Back home..

Alhamdulillah, flight QR620 from D0ha landed safely at KL!A at 1135 local time. 25 minutes early than ETA.

The cabin crew, led by CSD Eliza and assisted by CA Dan and CA Sameer made my journey memorable - although am not satisfied with the cabin seats....
