Saturday

AE: SHJ (2) / SHJ - DOH

As usual, when you were so tired a night before, you just need a good sleep. But then, Zal and myself promised our host, AP to cook breakfast whenever we were at his place. Yesterday was Nasi Lemak day and this morning, it was fried rice.

Today's plan is to be around Sharjah since we will be leaving for D O H in the afternoon. Drove to Blue Souq nearby. The exterior is beautiful. Spend nearly four hours over there.. at one store only! Originally I didn't plan to buy anything and as usual, I ended up buying the most. Spent nearlyDhs500 on the things I dont really need....

I bet when I renovate my house in Msia (this is a plan :-)), the decor will definitely look weird.. and a new concept will born - "Mismatch Concept".

Had lunch at the Pizz4 C0mpany and dessert at Sw3nsen's. Around 3.30pm, packed our stuff and drove to the airport, which is situated outskirts of the city. The design of the airport resembles to its sisteer airport, Abv Dh4bi. But this airport is not manage very well and under heavy constructions. However, the duty free is better than A U H.

We were lucky to have the latest addition to Air Ar4bia family (A6-ABH) for our flight back to D O H. It was ontime and the wonderful G9 crew was led by Flight Stewardess Ameera. The 0:47 hrs journey was uneventful and we touched down at D O H on runaway 34 at 1747hrs local time.
It was one of the smoothest touchdown I have experience.... Everything was great until we reached the immigration. The queue was so long and it took us more than 30mins to clear up the immigration.

Once outside the terminal, called our friend KM to pick us up. We headed straight to the S4dd stadium to watch a football match. Our very own Malaysia under 20 team was playing against the ost country Olymp1c team. We lost one nil. I attributed this to the skills of our players who spent more time styling their hair than polishing their football skills. :-) Pandai je comment orang kan... diri sendiri kaki bangku... ahaks....

Well, it was a wonderful trip and the next trip would be home... home sweet home ..Malaysia... then, if I decided to come back to D O H after my trip home, maybe I would spend a weekend in Musc4t..... let see....

thanks for reading....

AE: SHJ / DXB (1)

Woke up a bit late due to late night jalan-jalan last night. The breakfast for today was Nasi Lemak cooked by Zal. It was Friday and an off-day in the Emirat3s. So, the street was not busy and we should get around fairly easy without traffic jam. Theplan was to mall-hopping among these four malls, Ibn Batutta, Emir4tes, Mercat0 and Mad3inat Jum3irah.

First, we have to face our first hurdle. How to get out from the parking space. There was a H0nda Civ1c blocked the entrance to the parking space. How inconsiderate! Zal, AP and myself have to move trash bins around just to get out of the parking space. Luckily AP rented a cute small Toy0ta Y4ris. Not really a problem when it comes to limited parking area.

The culprit! Can you see the bricks on the car?

Sh4rjah is the third city in the U-A-E that I visited. The first being Dub4i and second was Abu Dh4bi. I see similarities in both Sharj4h and Abu Dh4bi, but not Dub4i.

We set off around 11am from Sharj4h and within minutes we were at the Dub4i airport area. Our first destination was Madin4t Jumeir4h. It was not crowded and no Ar4bs at all. That was surprising. I guess Dub4i is losing its identity as an Ar4b city, which is very sad. If not because of the dessert and some arabic characters on the shops and along the road, one can mistaken this as somewhere else, not in the Middl3 E4st. I hope the government of Dub4i know their limit and try to preserve the true arabian culture and most importantly the Islamic way of life.

After snapping some photos, we drove all the way to Mercat0 .. another beautiful landmark in Dub4i. Nothing much here so we proceed to an Asian fusion restaurant for lunch. This restaurant is tucked in the residential area and not visible directly from the Jumeir4h beach road. The food that we had was not authentic as we expected. Well, its fusion anyway :-) But at least, thats the closest to home food that our host can suggest. Thank you AP.... btw, we didnt mean to leave you with the check, but we need to empty our bladder at that time.. hehehehee what a perfect timing :-p

Next destination after lunch is Ibn Batutt4 Mall. I have seen the photos of its beautiful interior, so this destination is a must. En route, stopped by Hard Rock cafe to get some souvenirs.

The mall consists of six different civilisations, supposed to be the routes taken by Ibn Batutta during his days. We started from the Chinese Court moving to India Court and continue on to Persian Court before entering Egypt Court. Next is the Tunisian Court and end at Andalusia Court. A wonderful experience and I like the Persian Court interior the most.

Next, we hopped to the Mall of the Emirates on the way back to down town Dub4i. Here, we were joined by Zal's friend who just arrived in Dub4i a couple of weeks ago. Had dinner at TGiF and proceed to Burjum4n Centre to drop Zal's friend. Hanged out at Zal's friend exclusive one bedroom suite for a while and drove back home to Sharj4h around midnight.

It was a very tiring day and Saturday will be Sharj4h day. To my host, I know you were very tired that night... can see the signs when we had dinner :-) or was it because u r mad at me? hehehehee :-p

And no Middl3 E4st Idol for the night... :-p everybody was damned tired...

Friday

AE: DOH - SHJ

Left my office around 4.30pm on Thursday to pick Zal at his apartment. Packed a bit more and drove to KM's place nearby the airport to park the car. His apartment is just across the street from the airport. Reached airport around 5.35pm and check-in was a breeze. The airport was not crowded at this point of time since majority of flights at D O H happens late night and early morning.

Immigration was smooth although the officer took a bit of time to "check" me out compare to Zals. Maybe due to me having a business visa while Zals has a resident permit. At D O H, you will go through two security checks, one before check in (just after you enter the terminal - typical for most airports in the Middl3 E4st) and another one after the immigration (just before entering the departure lounge). At this second security check, there are three security access points with x-ray machines, but only two were operational. One was for the airport staff (crew included) and another for passengers. The queue for the passsengers' was quite long and the one for the staff was empty - unfortunately, I am living in this part of the world, so the security ppl never bother to think and came out with the idea to use the empty staff lane for the passengers. What a waste of resources!

Am not going to be racism here, but there are "certain people" from "this certain area" have no respect to others or law. If there is a queue, why can't they just join the queue at the end???? I was queuing for the security check and suddenly out of nowhere, one person came and stood next to me and gave me his "please let me in" smile. Blo0dy hell.... I told him to join the queue at the back and showed him how long the queue was. He simply ignored it and started putting his luggage on the converyor belt!

Gila punye k3l!ng!

The departure lounge for today's flight was at Gate 2. Most of the passengers were from S0uth As1an, probably connecting at S H J to go back to their homeland with the same airline. It's cheaper compare to their homeland airlines, I guess.

G9 (AirArabi4 I-A-T-A code) is the first low cost carrier in the Middl3 E4st. Although they are in the same class with our very own AK, I would rather flying G9 metal for medium or long haul. The seat pitch is generous, I think is abt 34" and the reclining is better than the other airlines. Mabe to accommodate the bigsize Ar4bs.. hahahhahaa...oopppssss.... :-) The flight was manned by two cockpit crew and four cabin crew, led by Flight Steward Bashir.

Today's flight was full and and the cabin service started with a small cup fo water for all passengers. Something that was not offer for free on A K. Other stuff are as per A K. You need to pay for the food and drinks.

The flight time was 46 minutes and today's metal was A6-ABC, an Airbvs 320 leased from I-L-F-C by G9 in October 2004. So, roughly this bird is 2 years old. This was my first flight with G9 and definitely I would consider flying with them again (although I have some reservation with the ground staff of the Sharj4h Internati0nal Airp0rt).

Touched down at S H J on time and proceed to the immigration. The arrival area is under construction and the immigration is a bit weird. It was on the side of the building rather than designed as a "toll-booth" concept like other airports. You barely can see any queues and to go out to the baggage claim area, you have to go through one small lane manned by two officers (who are busy talking to each other and choosing who they prefer to pass through first....)

Our friend, AP only arrived abt 40 minutes after we came out of the arrival hall. We proceed to downtown for dinner at Karachi Darbar restaurant, which according to SA the best briyani in town :-) betul ke? We had chicken briyani, mutton briyani and another chicken dish. Washed down with supposed to be mango lassi - but I doubt it since there was no mango taste at all.

Dropped AP's friend at her place and went to AP's apartment to freshen
up. The apartment is across the beautiful S H J corniche. It was a duplex and very spacious for one or two persons. We took a stroll along the Corniche to the Qanat Al-Qasbah. There, stands one of the gigantic ferris wheels in the world. If I am not mistaken, the famous one is "London Eye", then we have Malaysia with "Eye on Malaysia", this one in S H J is known as "Eye of Emirates" and I guess there is another one in Japan. It was midnight already and there were not many people around except some teenagers chatting / dancing / drinking (err... non-alcoholic drinks). There was this one teenager tried to scare us with his pet snake. Yes... it was a snake.. and I hate snake... I cannot even look at the picture of snakes, let alone the real one!

It was a tiring night - I went straight to sleep while the other two practising for the next Middl3 E4st Idol... hahahhahahahahahaa..... :-p

QA: Makan-Makan (8)

Over the weekend, we had another BBQ. Same place as the previous week, but much smaller scale. Instead by the pool, we had this at N's villa. This time, in my opinion, was a bit "weird". Myself, Zal and SK are considered as one team and we can only invite five people. At the so-called "By Invitation Only" party, we found out the actual reason why this BBQ was held... &#%$@&*@%# apparently, the host has put a condition on the guests i.e., prefer "certain group". What type of host is this? I told Zal if this host wants our help again in preparing the food, forget it, I am not going to do it. All the meat/chicken for BBQ were marinated by Zal and I did the fried rice noodle. In fact, all the main dishes were prepared and cooked by us.

I am very very dissapointed.

QA: Blogging

Power of blogging… yup, I just want to write something about blogging.

At first, when I was introduced to blogging, I was a bit skeptical. Anything that got to do with putting yourself on the cyber world makes me shiver. My worst experience with internet was somebody (who I believe is very close to me) hijacked my Yah00! email and use it to send nasty things about myself to my contacts. My contacts include my previous clients as well. That was really embarrassing and until now, I do not forgive the person until he admitted and reasoned with me why he did that. That was more than two years ago. But it still makes me tremble.

When I was in college, I have my own journal. And my English lecturer read it every day. She will put her thoughts and encouraged me to continue on. Hardcopy copy journal is hard to share with others and taking up more spaces at home. Then I found blog, voila! I got to continue my journal…

My first entry was in 2005 if I am not mistaken. It was with bl0gdrive. A cabin crew with “Taking u more personally” was my first “guru”. She helped me a lot and later I found out that maintaining a blog on bl0gdrive is not as easy as I thought. So, I switched to blogsp0t. I didn’t write anything in my blog until one incident – yes that incident with stooped project cars…. My mind was mess-up and I just need to let it out. Definitely feel relieve once you write down everything that messing up your brain. The same concept I use when something happen at work especially when I receive an email that I believe not suppose to be sent out. I will write a reply (with a blank To: ) and save it as draft. When I cool down a bit, I will read again and normally, I just delete it.

Blogging has expanded my circle of friends. I have created friends with few Msian bloggers world-wide. I also have a chance to meet some of them in person. Z4ls, SA, F4mil, Sh4h are bloggers that I have met in person. I also have met other bloggers who do not know I read their blogs…. :-)

Since I used my blog as a transmission from my brain to the world, I have to be very careful with what I write. I try to avoid putting real names and places, hence, the usage of “zero” for letter “O”, number 4 for letter “A” etc… is inevitable. However, from the
stats, this proves not a good way to hide. When I sign my entry with “M T @ Q 4 t 4 r”, Google search does not recognize the space between the letters. And there are people who search me, yes, searching me on the net using exact sign. Hampeh…

This blog is created for my friends and people I do not know to get to know me. Office mates and family members are the last in the list. I got a sense that my brothers do read my blog (since I am using same address as my email and Skyqe handle. Worse, my Gmail signature has a link to my blog and fotopages (malaytraveller.blogspot.com) – have not updated my fotopages for a long time already :-) Guess what… the things you don’t want to happen, always happen. So, early this week, when I turned on my laptop at work, suddenly Skyqe offline message box appears. (FYI, I always connects my Skyqe whenever there is an internet connection. Anyone of you wants to chat with me, you are more than welcome. My Skyqe handle is malaytraveller).

That’s it…. My office mate found my blog. He was actually searching for a gym in D0ha and he told me my blog appears on the first page of google search. Hahahahaha…..
So, my Ninja Skyqe P4kistani Americ4n friend, welcome to my blog :-) Next time you visit this blog, do leave a comment…

From that point on, I don’t care anymore. This is my blog and I believe in a freedom of speech (including “laser-melaser” :-p). So be it. I don’t use real name but the events really happen.

So, blogging does expand your circle of friends. You get more cyber friends that turn out to be your good friends, insyaAllah. You also find somebody who shares the same feeling as you thousand of miles away. You can talk, give and take advice and share your interests. In fact you can also ask for a free consultation on every thing… yes, every thing….. where to go for a trip? What to do when you are stuck to make decision? Relationship issue…. Every thing….. Don’t u just love that??

That’s the power of blogging…. And I just loooovee my blog…… and to all the readers out there, thank you for all your support… Love you all!

QA: TAG? Apa tu?

I have been tagged! What exactly “been tagged” means? To tell you the truth, I don’t know what it means… but from few blogs that I have read, “been tagged” means you have to make an entry on the specific topic decided by the person who tags you. The wonderful RedDotter couple has tagged me….. and according to the Rule of Tagging, I have to tag another six bloggers. Unfortunately, I don’t know many bloggers and those who I know already been tagged. So, I will not tag anyone….. sorry…. (lucky those who I know but yet to be tagged…)

Anyway, I have to list six weird things about myself. Only six .. (fuuhhh…lucky)… But one question remains, How do you know certain things are weird? Hmmm…. Are there any benchmarks? Just because one person you know didn’t do it, can you consider that as weird? It is hard for me to identify them. To make thing simple, I will list what others have commented/complaint/said about me…. In other words, things that they do not really agree with me or for them, are weird….

And oh..by the way.. this entry is rated PG…..hehehe and somebody said the first two are a bit "berlagak.."...uh...I don't care... that's me.. :-)

Here they are:

1) Most of my clothes/garments are good quality (perasan jap.. well its true..). I don’t mind paying extra money to buy stuff that I believe are good quality. However, I fail in matching the shirts with pants with socks and shoes. Is this weird enough? I mean spending money on things but they don’t look good on you…. Am I a fashion disaster? Errr… don’t think so…. I think I am more towards trend-setter…ahaks.. what do you think?

2) More about clothing. I only wear white or blue or mixture of these two colors for work. Pants must always be wool or at least 80% wool. And all my underwear are white. Just feel more confident when I wear those. [hmmmm.. ow exactly wearing white underwear boost your confident level????..dont ask me...]

3) I can eat KFC every day. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even I am full, the aroma of KFC will automatically create a space in my stomach for at least two piece of original recipe :-) I only take original recipe and no wings!

4) I can’t make a drink, be it coffee, milo, hot chocolate or even tea. There are always something wrong with the ingredients mixture. Either too much sugar or milk or coffee… In other words, I rely 100% on the 3 in1 drinks. Thank you P0wer R00t.

5) I love aviation. Commercial flights only. I can spend the whole day at the airport watching

aircrafts. And I have done this before – took a train to FRA and stayed there for the whole day. Back then, you only need to pay 5 DM (Deutsche Mark) to go to the observation roof. Do visit my favourite website. B747 – The Queen of the Sky….. I can stare at B747 photo for hours……. She is something special…. And I don’t like Airbus… they are ugly – especially A 3 8 0.

6) Window shopping (and shopping itself) is part of me. If I want to buy something, I will go to the same shop and other shops three or four times before I buy it until the sales person fed-up seeing my face. Even if the item is not that expensive. This reminds me of the time I wanted to buy a new wallet with money clip. I went to every high-end shop at Kay Ell CC, and lastly I went to M0ntBlanc to buy one. When I got in there, the sales assistant cynically said, “Hah, dah habis round semua kedai?”.. ooppppssss.. he has been watching me! Hehehehe..

I hope that’s enough… macam “buka pekung didada” lak…

QA: Once Upon A Time (2)

It was not a good day today. Submitted the recommendations to the client before I went on leave last December. And this client, being "bodoh sombong" didn't bother to look into it until the time we need to move ahead.

They read it once and provided us official comments.
We fixed.
They read again (only after we complaint to the higher management that they needed to look at the document) and they provided us with another set of comments. And the comments were on different subjects. Why on earth they didn't digest and assess thoroughly during first read?????? I am very patient on this ... we accepted it and fixed.
They read again. And I guess u know what happened. They have comments again and definitely on different subjects!!!!

Crazy!!!!

When I asked for parameters to be uploaded into the system, they said that's not their responsibility to provide us with the info. Err...... isn't it you who will be using the system? I hate going to the higher management to "educate" high level ranking person. Yes.. the person who creates the hassles is quiet high rank....

This is what I have to deal on daily basis since one and half years ago. Isn't it pathetic? I have no skills improvement since then... and I could not find any other project outside, even if I found one it is hard to get enrolled for that (since the higher management is trying to keep all the knowledgeable ppl in this project intact here).

I really feel my career development is blocked. And everyday, I have been looking for another job. Could not find any that fits my skills set..... aaarrggghhhhhhh.... tension nye.........

QA: Allowance...

Effective February 1 this year, theproject will no longer pay for the car that I am using. Instead, a monthly allowance of USD300 will be paid. I am very happy with this since I can use the allowance for my own way of transportation and other things as well.

Let's see whether it benefits me.

On weekdays, I only use the car 5 mins in the morning to go to work, one hour to go for lunch (driving is only 10 mins going and coming back) and another 5 mins going back home after office hour. Other than that, I don't really use the car. Overall, taking the cash allowance benefits me more than keeping the current car.

Currently the project car is charged to my credit card and if other people driving the car and got a ticket, it will deducted from my credit card. How unfair is that?

Right now I am looking for a bicycle. Killing two birds in one stone - as my mode of transport and at the same time, trim my tummy!!!! ahaks.... :-))

I checked the cost to courier my mountain bike from Msia, and it cost around a thousand RM to ship it here. Definitely it is cheaper to get it here... second hand would do.
